If you use Acquire to write to a z/OS dataset (i.e., DD AVMDATA), then you may want to use the AVMPUSH program to help automate the copying of that data to where it will be picked up and processed by Control Center. Using AVMPUSH can help in automating the copying of data either to a staging FTP server, or if an FTP server is running on the same machine as Control Center, directly into its work area, in a form that is readily usable, and in a way that means the likelihood of partially written files is avoided.

ACQPUSH can invoke FTP directly if desired (one-step mode), or it can simply generate the commands to append to other FTP commands for use in a subsequent step or job (two-step mode).

One-step mode is enabled if you provide three additional DDNAMEs in AVMPUSH’s JCL. //INPUT and //OUTPUT for use by FTP, and //AVMFTP to provide a parameter file of FTP commands containing the server name or IP address, user name and password to use and any directory changing needed prior to the insertion of the ‘put’ and ‘rename’ commands. These are written where a parameter of !push or !PUSH is found.

You can include any valid FTP commands before and after this point – AVMPUSH does not validate them in any way, it just writes them away for FTP to use.
