If the Syncsort Capacity Management Job Scheduler Service is not started as part of the install, start it from the Services list. When the Service is started it performs similar validation checks to the installer. If any of these checks fail the Service is not started and the following message will be displayed.

The Job Scheduler service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.

Any issues encountered installing or starting the Job Scheduler service will be recorded in the Installer log file SyncsortCapacityManagementJobScheduler.Install-yyyymmdd-hhmmss.log. This file is located in your temporary folder, found by entering %temp% into Windows Explorer.

The following table summarizes common issues encountered installing, starting, or using the Service.

Issue

Action

Insufficient Privileges

Check the permissions associated with the user account running the Installer and the account the service will run as.

The Installer failed to Install the Service

The most likely cause is lack of permissions.

Check that the user running the installation is an Administrator on the machine and has Log on As A Service permission

The Installer failed to start the Service

A number of possible issues need to be checked here:
  • Permissions – If a built-in system account has been defined for running the Service, the permissions will not have been validated during installation. Check that the selected account has the appropriate permissions for the Capacity Database being serviced by Job Scheduler.
  • TCP/IP – Sometimes the Protocol may be disabled or not enabled for the appropriate Port. Ensure the following Protocols are enabled for the SQL Server Instance where the Capacity Database is located:
    • Shared Memory
    • Named Pipes
    • TCP/IP
  • Firewall – The Firewall of the server hosting the Capacity Database may be blocking the Job Scheduler from connecting to it. Ensure there is an Inbound and an Outbound Rule set to open the Port(s) for SQL Server in the Firewall.
  • Database Permissions – For the Job Scheduler to run Syncsort Capacity Management Service View calculation jobs it requires the Athene DbReader and Athene DBWriter role permissions.

Service Views not being calculated

Check that the Job Scheduler Service is running.

If the Job Scheduler Service is running, check the Syncsort Capacity Management JS log in C:\ProgramData\Metron\Logs folder for any errors.
