Prior to Athene 11.10 there were Red Hat and SUSE Acquires for Linux for Intel/AMD systems. These have been proven to be not necessary and a single generic Linux Acquire can now be used in their place. Two changes have been built into the generic x64 Intel/AMD Linux variant of Acquire.

  • The acqsetup script for this variant of Acquire has been improved to log much more detail and to indicate whether or not the installation succeeded or failed. It contains additional checks to ensure that software necessary for Acquire to work is available, notably the ‘bc’ (basic calculator) program, and the ‘sysstat’ package that provides many of the commands Acquire needs. If they are not present the installation will fail and say what is missing.

  • If a system update should occur and either of these components be lost the APMcapture script that is run by the metron crontab will also now detect this and not try to capture data. In this case a file called CaptureError will be written to the metron home directory explaining the error. This file will be renamed to CaptureError.prev if it exists at the start of a capture interval. If no error occurs, no CaptureError file will exist, but if an error occurred in the past the CaptureError.prev file will remain in perpetuity. It can be deleted manually at any time, if you prefer.

Similar improvements will be made in other Acquires in a future version of Syncsort Capacity Management.
