Changes to more recent versions of vCenter allow or even force web services to use of TLS 1.2 and disallow TLS 1.0. To support this, set a Microsoft .NET registry entry to ensure that Acquire for Windows complies with this change in security protocols. Without this change, data capture continuously reports connection errors and does not work.

To configure windows to use TLS 1.2 exclusively:
  1. On the Windows system where Acquire for Windows is (or is to be) installed, open regedit and navigate to this location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319

  2. In the right-hand pane of regedit, right-click and add a new DWORD key called SchUseStrongCrypto and set the value of this key to 1.
  3. If Acquire for Windows is already installed, stop and restart the Acquire service after creating and setting this registry entry.
