With adherence to Syncsort Capacity Management naming conventions and multiple system support, it is relatively easy to automate collection of data.

There are two types of collection:
  • Pull collection by the Syncsort Capacity Management Control Center, if connectivity is permitted from the Control Center machine to the mainframe. This is the normal way that most other operating systems have their data collected by Syncsort Capacity Management. Files are deleted from the mainframe by Control Center, after copying has completed. This only works for z/OS if you store data in the USS form.

  • Push from the mainframe to the Control Center machine, which has the advantage that this can happen as soon as the data file has been created. With this method, it is the user’s responsibility to delete processed datasets from the mainframe, or perhaps use a GDG to manage them.

Syncsort Capacity Management and Acquire support both means of copying data, and they each have advantages and disadvantages. You must choose the one that best suits your need and your environment.

The control cards PUSHFTP= or PUSHUCOPY= specify what action is to be taken on the Acquire output file.
