Use of older versions of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols are now deprecated and in some instances are no longer supported by vCenter. This will cause connection failures and you will see messages like this in System Manager:

VMware Webservice scmvc.us.precisely.com does not exist or cannot be accessed on the network.

Could not get next valid session for webservice scmvc.us.precisely.com. System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. ---> System.IO.IOException: Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream

In this case you can restore connectivity by adding a registry key to the Windows system running Acquire for Windows that is attempting to capture vCenter data, in order to direct .NET to use TLS 1.2.

Note that setting this key will affect ALL .NET 4 applications on the system, not just Acquire for Windows.
  1. Open regedit and locate the folder:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319

  2. Create a new DWORD key called SchUseStrongCrypto and set its value to 1.
  3. Close regedit.
  4. Restart the Acquire for Windows service.
