If you want to make sure you have contiguous RMF intervals in a run there are several ways this can be approached. If the RMF intervals in a run are not contiguous the //IPLIST report will show this message:

AZS815W nnnnn RMF INTERVAL GAPS : SEE //MULTLIST

The //MULTLIST report will detail where all gaps occur, for example:

SMF DATASET NAME
SMF GAP? START START RMF END END MISSING
ID DATE TIME INTERVAL DATE TIME SECONDS

Here it looks like a member of GDG not been processed and some 6.5 hours of data is missing, and perhaps later an IPL was performed, so for nearly 10 minutes there simply was no data.

By default Acquire will continue as normal. You can set a parameter ofIFGAPS= to a value other than its default to change that. This parameter controls how Acquire ends if gaps are detected and follows the same syntax as the WARN=, FAIL= and USSFAIL= control cards. You can set a return code from 0 to 4095 or a user abend of 0 - 4095 by setting either IFGAPS=Rn or IFGAPS=An and Acquire will terminate with that condition if gaps are detected in data.

If a time gap is negative, e.g. on a clock change or some other very odd situation, the characters <<<< will be printed and the MISSING SECONDS value will have a – sign in front of the number.

A maximum of 20 data gaps are recorded in the type 0000 record – the first in the output file. If more gaps than that are found they will be counted and reported on in the MULTLIST report but not recorded in the 0000 record.

Control Center will use the information in the 0000 record to validate both inside a set of data and between sets of data, as part of its Gatekeeper facility. This facility is documented in the section "Control Center Gatekeeper for z/OS" of the Syncsort Capacity Management User Guide.
