The Setup Options dialog allows you to select which of the Acquire features you want to install. By default all components will be installed apart from the Critical Service Monitor. Installing additional components has no impact on the performance of Acquire, and we strongly recommend that you use the features selected by default, whether you expect to use them or not.

The Critical Service Monitor (CSM) feature is disabled by default as it has to attach itself to the SNMP service on the system and can require a reboot to do this. Only select this option if you really want to use CSM and you are prepared / allowed to restart the system.
Figure 1. The Select Components dialog

The selectable components of Acquire are:
  • Standard Monitor – Enables the capture of performance data via the Windows Performance Monitor. This includes standard Windows performance metrics, and metrics from SQL Server, IIS and Exchange Server (if installed).

  • Critical Service Monitor – This feature provides a means of monitoring if processes are running and alerting to Control Center if not. It is disabled by default. Leave it disabled unless you really want to use it.

  • VMware Monitor – Enables capture of VMware performance data from a vCenter Server.

  • Oracle Monitor – Enables capture of Oracle performance metrics. If you intend to capture Oracle data using this Acquire, the system on which you are installing Acquire must have SQL*Plus installed, and must be able to connect to the required Oracle instance(s) via standard Oracle networking. As previously stated, you can install the Oracle capture component whether SQL*PLUS is installed or not.

  • SymfoWARE Monitor – Enables capture of SymfoWARE performance data. This software is only available in Japan.

  • WMI (Windows Agentless) Monitor – Enables capture of Windows, SQL Server, IIS, and Exchange data from multiple Windows systems through WMI calls. This means that you can capture performance data without having to install an Acquire on each of them. The remote systems do not have to be within the same domain as the Acquire which is performing the capture, but they do require specific security configuration to allow WMI calls through the firewall.

As stated previously, you should normally install ALL the Acquire components except for the Critical Service Monitor, unless Precisely has specifically advised you do something different.

If there is a particular component that you have been advised not to install:

  • Click the Down arrow beside the component name.

  • Select the Entire feature will be unavailable option.

If you skip the installation of a particular component and later find that you need it:

  • Either reinstall the Acquire by rerunning Acquire.exe.

  • Or, in the Control Panel use either the Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs option, and select Modify.
