For a small-scale Syncsort Capacity Management installation, for testing or evaluation purposes, it is perfectly acceptable to install the Control Center, the Portal, the Job Scheduler, the SQL Server instance, and the Syncsort Capacity Management applications on a single workstation or laptop.

In a larger deployment, Syncsort Capacity Management has been designed for a distributed configuration, for example:
  • A dedicated, "lights-out" machine running the Control Center service and, optionally, the Portal web application and the Job Scheduler. However, Precisely recommends the Portal and Job Scheduler being on different machines than the Control Center.

  • A SQL Server system on which the Capacity Database resides.

  • Syncsort Capacity Management desktop application systems running System Manager and the other Syncsort Capacity Management software applications.

In addition, for larger deployments, the following will need to be determined:

  • The system where the License Server runs

  • The system(s) where the Core service runs

Depending on the configuration requirements, it may be necessary to have more than one database in one or more SQL Server instances, hosted on either local or distributed servers. For more information about it, refer to the "About Syncsort Capacity Management" chapter of the Syncsort Capacity Management User Guide.
