To install the Job Service, you must run the standard Setup.exe.

The following steps cover installing the Job Scheduler Package only.

  1. Select to install the Job Scheduler Package, as shown here.
If the Syncsort Capacity Management Core and/or Syncsort Capacity Management Portal are not to be installed at this stage, deselect those options.
Figure 1. Syncsort Capacity Management Installer – Welcome screen, with Job Scheduler selected

  2. Click Next.
  3. Choose the destination folder where the Syncsort Capacity Management JS will be installed. By default, this is C:\Program Files\Syncsort Capacity Management Job Scheduler, but it can be changed as necessary.
  4. Once the destination details have been entered, click Next.
  5. At this point you need to specify the account that Job Scheduler uses to access the Capacity Database. You can either specify an in-built service or a user account.
    • In-built Service Accounts: Local System; Local Service; or Network Service.

    • User Accounts: Specify the Username and Password along with selecting a domain.
Figure 2. Job Scheduler Installer - Account Information

    • If a built-in service account is selected, then:

    • Local System works with a Local or a Remote Capacity Database

      • local login will be NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

      • remote login will be Domain\MachineName$

    • Local Service only works with a local Capacity Database:

      • login account will be NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE

    • Network Services only works with a remote Capacity Database:

      • login account will be Domain\MachineName$

  6. Once the Account details have been entered, click Next. If a User account has been selected but the account details are not correct, the installer will not allow you to proceed.
Note:  If Target Level Security has been enabled within a Capacity Database to restrict access to specific Targets, it is possible to run the Job Scheduler under a separate user which has unrestricted Target access. This allows for any Service View to be calculated against all Targets within your selected services. Any Target information displayed via the Portal is subject to user account restrictions.
  7. Configure the Capacity Database connection the Job Scheduler uses.
    1. Either select a SQL Server Instance from the drop-down, or type the SQL Server instance name into the box provided.
    2. Type the name of the Capacity Database to which the Job Scheduler connects.

    3. Once the Capacity Database details have been entered, click Next
Note:  If a User account has been selected the Capacity Database settings will be validated to check that it:
      • They can be used by the Service to access the Capacity Database by using the specified User account.

      • The Capacity Database has been upgraded to the appropriate Syncsort Capacity Management version.

      • The Capacity Database does not already have a Syncsort Capacity Management JS associated with it. If a built-in account has been selected the validation cannot take place, as connection to the Capacity Database by the installer using a built-in account is not possible. As a result, the Service will not be automatically started when the installation process completes.

Figure 4. JS Installer- information message is a build-in account is used

  8. If validation is attempted and fails, then one of the following messages should appear and the Syncsort Capacity Management JS service will not be started as part of the installation process:
    • If the SQL Server cannot be accessed:
Figure 5. JS Installer - error if the SQL Server cannot be accessed

    • If the Capacity Database is not present on the SQL Server or the user has insufficient privileges to access it:

Figure 6. JS Installer- error if the Capacity Database cannot be accessed

    • If the Capacity Database is not at the correct version - the actual versions displayed may differ:

Figure 7. JS Installer- error if the Capacity Database is not at the appropriate version

    • If validation succeeds but there is already a Job Scheduler connected to the Capacity Database, then the following message will be displayed, and the installer will not allow you to proceed. Only one Job Scheduler can be associated with a Capacity Database at any one time. You will need to stop the Job Scheduler service running on the other machine before continuing with the install.

  9. Once the Capacity Database has been validated, the Email Options window will be displayed, allowing you to configure the SMTP settings which enable the Job Scheduler to send emails when required.
Note: If the Email Options dialog is bypassed or if you enter incorrect information there is no user interface to correct it. You must uninstall and reinstall the Job Scheduler component again.

    • Port Number – The Port Number associated with the SMTP Server specified above.

Test email was sent successfully. Please check the recipient’s inbox to confirm that the email was delivered.

    • If the test email fails, then one of the following messages will appear and the Next button will remain disabled:

If the recipient address is invalid or the Subject is empty:

Please provide a valid email address and subject.

    • If the SMTP options are invalid:

Please go back to the previous page and edit the SMTP options, as the email failed to send due to incorrect SMTP options.
Note: If this message appears you need to go back to the Email Options page and correct the SMTP settings.
  14. Once the Test email has been sent successfully and the Next button is enabled, click Next. The Housekeeping Logs window will be displayed allowing you to specify the number of days to retain the Job Scheduler log files.
