A component associated with a business name. Often describes the legal business structure. (For example: Inc., Ltd., The Law Office Of, etc.)

A word or phrase that indicates one name is related to a business name (for example: "Doing Business As").

Example:

John C Smith D/B/A Smith’s Auto Parts

A word or phrase that helps determine if a name is a business name.

Example: ABC Software where "Software" would be a BUSINESS

Possible name for a Business or Surname. The BUSINESS? attribute does not force the entire name to Business as does the BUSINESS attribute. Rather it triggers an examination of other attributes in the name to see if the name is Personal. If there is a TTLP and/or GVN-NM1 attribute prior to the BUSINESS? attribute, the name is considered potentially Personal and the BUSINESS? attribute is turned back to an ALPHA. The revised pattern is looked up.

If there is no TTLP or GVN-NM1, the BUSINESS? is turned into a BUSINESS and the name is considered a Business name. Or, if there are other BUSINESS attributes in the name, the name will be considered a Business.

Compound title – Indicates multiple names. A C-TITLE attribute has a unique behavior that uses the RECode value of the entry to change the original Name Pattern by allowing the Recoded values to be lookup up again.

Dr/Mrs recodes to "Dr and Mrs’

Rev/Mr recodes to ‘Rev and Mr"

Dr/Dr recodes to ‘Dr and Dr"
