The Control Center uses virtual versions of entities, rules, and attributes that are stored in a central location called the Business Rules Library. The Library is saved to the repository on the Trillium repository server. There is one Library per repository.

This topic describes the objects found in the Business Rules Library. For information about other Library objects, see Working with the Project Library.

Library Rules

A business rule becomes shareable when it is stored in a library entity (for EBRs) or attribute (for ABRs). Library rules and related library entities and library attributes can be viewed from the Library tab in the Navigation View.

From the Business Rules Library you:

  • Edit the expression elements of a library rule
  • Delete a rule
  • Copy library EBRs to one or more real entities
  • Copy library ABRs to a real entity and one or more real attributes contained in the entity
  • View all real entities associated with EBRs
  • View all real attributes associated with ABRs
  • Set rule permission security (For more information, see Using Windows Authentication Security.)
  • Modify default priorities, associate categories, and search for rules in the Business Rule Search Engine.

Library Entities

After you promote an EBR to the Business Rules Library, you associate the real entity in which the original rule is contained to an object called a library entity. Library entities contain library attributes and EBRs.

From a library entity you:

  • Open all library EBRs and attributes, and any associated real entities
  • Modify attribute mappings and entity associations
  • Export library entities to local or server systems for reuse across repositories
  • Set entity permission security

Library Attributes

Library attributes are virtual attributes stored in the Business Rules Library, as follows:

  • Entity Business Rules Library. When you add EBRs to the Library, all library attributes for EBRs in a library entity are mapped to real attributes in a real entity, so associations remain at both the attribute and entity level.
  • Attribute Business Rules Library. All ABRs in the Library are stored in library attributes. Out-of-the-box, the ABR library contains one library attribute named Standard that contains ten ABRs that act as data checks and standards for all real attributes loaded into the Control Center. From the Standard library attribute you can edit the default expression elements that make up these data checks. From a library attribute you:
    • Open ABRs and all associated real attributes
    • Add a new ABR
    • Edit library attribute names and descriptions
    • Delete a library attribute
    • Associate with or disassociate from real attributes
    • Export a library attribute to local and server systems for reuse across repositories
    • Set attribute permission security
