After you set the configuration, you can run the process. If you try to execute one or more processes and any of the mandatory process settings are missing, you will be prompted to address the issues before continuing.
As a best practice, run one process at a time, checking the results and tuning the settings if necessary before moving on to the next process. For more information about checking results, see Viewing Output Rows.
Using Pipes
You can configure a process to run using pipes. Using pipes in a job stream moves data from process to process without creating interim output files. Eliminating these files reduces the disk space required to run processes, allowing large data files to run with lower risk of running out of disk space.
Note the following when using pipes:
- Because there are no interim output files in a piped job stream, you cannot review the results of an individual process except for the end process.
- Profiling processes do not take or generate piped output. Therefore, profiling processes will always generate an output file. When executing multiple processes including profiling, the process that precedes the profiling process will generate a file.
Execute a process from the Navigation or Project View
To execute a process from the Navigation or Project View
- From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the process and select Run. The Execute Process window opens.
- If any issues are found, address those that may have an impact on successfully executing the process.
- (Optional) Select Include dependent processes to execute all processes that are connected to the current process.
- (Optional) Select Use pipes.

- Click Run to run the process immediately (the job will not display as a Background Task).
- Click Background to run the process in the background or schedule the process to run later. The scheduler notification bar opens. Optionally, change the job name in the scheduler notification bar. Run the process in the background or schedule a job to run. (Profiling processes cannot be run in the background.)
Execute multiple processes from List View
To execute multiple processes from List View
- From the Navigation View, double-click the Processes folder. The Project Processes List View displays.
- Select the processes to be run. You can select multiple processes.
- Right-click and select Run. The Execute Process window opens.
- If any issues are found, address those that may have an impact on successfully executing the processes.
- (Optional) Select Use pipes.

To execute selected processes from the Project View
- From the Project View, select the output entities for the processes to be run. You can select multiple entities.
- Right-click and select Refresh Entity. The Execute Process window opens.
- If any issues are found, address those that may have an impact on successfully executing the processes.
- (Optional) Select Use pipes.

Run a process in the background or schedule a job
To run a process in the background or schedule a job
- To schedule the job to run immediately, click Now. The message closes and the job begins running in the background.
- Click Later. The Set Date & Time scheduler window opens. To immediately run the job in the background, click Run Now. To schedule a time, select a starting date on the calendar and select a time you want the job to run on the selected date. Click Submit to save the scheduled time.
- Click Cancel to cancel the task.
After the process runs, the process icon in the Navigation View is changed from
(only the input entity is filled) to 
(both the input and output entities are filled).
If a process fails to run correctly, view details about the error by right-clicking the process and selecting View > Error file.
