A Keys process is added to a workflow to create permanent keys on the attributes you select. After you run the process, you can view the created keys and research duplicate keys. You can also add an Analysis or Load process branch off the output entity.

Note: Keys do not support dynamic entities. Use only real entities to create keys.

To add and run a Keys process and view results

  1. From the Navigation or Project View, right-click the input entity or the output from a Load process and select Add process branch. The Create Process window opens.
Note: If you plan to copy the Keys process to the Library, you must add it to a Load process. The Load process must then be copied to the Library along with the Keys process.
  2. In Process selection, select Keys.
  3. Click OK. The Keys process branch is added to the flow. A dotted line connects the input entity to the process. In the Navigation View, the new process displays at the end of the list of processes.
  4. Right-click the Keys process and select Edit process. The Select attributes window opens, showing all attributes in the entity.
  5. Check the attributes you want to comprise the key.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Right-click the process and select Run. The Execute Process window opens.
  8. (Optional) Select Include dependent processes to execute all processes that are branched off the current process. Select Use pipes. For details about using pipes, see the guidelines in Profiling Processes.
  9. Click Run.
  10. After the process runs, double-click the output entity to see any duplicate keys found. The Duplicate Keys List View opens. Duplicate keys indicate key values that are non-unique and so are not good candidates for permanent keys.
  11. Drill down to see other metadata results:
    1. Right-click the input entity.
    2. Select Tools > Drill down to metadata. The Entity List View opens. The Permanent Keys row shows how many permanent keys were created.
    3. Double-click Permanent Keys. The Keys List View opens showing the analysis metadata. The number of rows displayed depends on how many keys were created. The LH Attrs column shows the attributes that make up each key. To increase the number of keys found, increase the number of attributes analyzed and run the process again.
