The Customer Data Parser (CDP) process identifies and standardizes name and address data elements. It is run after the Transformer process. You can specify Parser inputs during project creation or after project creation.

Guidelines

Note the following guidelines and suggestions when configuring Parser inputs:

  • Specify a maximum of ten (10) name and address lines or business data lines to be used as Parser inputs.
  • The CDP allows a maximum of 100 characters for each line. If the data length is greater than 100, then it will be cut off at 100.
  • In a multi-country name and address project with multiple Parsers, you can do the following:
    • Specify the Parser inputs during project creation and have these settings be propagated to each country-specific, post-Router Transformer.
    • Specify different Parser inputs for each country by editing the Transformer process that precedes it.
Note: The Business Data Parser (BDP) identifies and standardizes free-form, non-name and address data elements, like product brands and sizes. You do not need to configure Parser inputs for the BDP. The input attribute for the BDP process is specified in the Input Settings window of the BDP process.

Specify parser inputs

To specify parser inputs

  1. From the Navigation View or Project View, right-click the Transformer process that precedes the CDP you want to modify and select Edit Process. You can also double-click the process to open it for editing. The Transformer Configuration window opens.
  2. Select the Parser Inputs tab. The Define Parser input address lines window displays. The Input Attributes list displays the names of the attributes in the input entity.
  3. Add up to 10 attributes to the Parser Inputs list by doing one of the following in the Input Attributes list:
    • Double-click an attribute.
    • Select an attribute and click > .
    • Select multiple attributes by clicking an attribute and pressing the Shift or Ctrl key.

The selected attributes display in a typical line-by-line mailing label format. For example, the first line is NAME, the second line is ADDRESS, the third line is CITY, the fourth line is STATE, and the fifth line is POSTCODE. To clear the Parser Inputs list, click <<.

Append name and address attributes

To append name and address attributes

Use this procedure to make attributes single-line by appending them.

  1. In the Parser Inputs list, click the attribute to which you want to append another attribute.
  2. Select the attribute in the Input Attributes list and click >+

The selected attribute is appended to the Parser Input attribute on the right. If the attribute is not added, then the attribute has already been added to the Parser Input; you cannot add the same attribute multiple times.

Note: In the Parser Inputs window, a comma appears between multiple attributes on one line. This comma does not appear in the final output.
  3. Repeat Step 2 for each attribute you want to append.
  4. (Optional) To remove an appended attribute, in the Parser Input window select the appended attribute and click <. The last appended attribute is removed. Repeat this step until all appended attributes are removed.

Remove attributes from the Parser Inputs list

To remove attributes from the Parser Inputs list

  1. In the Parser Inputs list, click the attribute you want to remove. Select multiple attributes by using the Shift or Ctrl key.
  2. Click to clear the attributes you selected.

Move attributes in the Parser Inputs list

To move attributes in the Parser Inputs list

  1. In the Parser Inputs list, click the attribute you want to move. Select multiple attributes by using the Shift or Ctrl key.
  2. Drag the attributes you selected.

Preview name and address attributes

To preview name and address attributes

  1. After finishing the attribute selection click Postcard. The actual name and address record data is displayed in a typical postcard format.
  2. (Optional) Click Next Record to preview another address in postcard format.
  3. Click Finish or click other tabs to configure more settings. When the Customer Data Parser runs, it uses these Parser Inputs and identifies data according to each country's postal rules.
