You can define relationships between assets of the same type, or between assets of different types. You can use the relationships that you define to visualize and understand how changes to one asset would impact other assets, and to understand how business terms relate to applications, reports, processes, policies and to each other.

Tip: Before relationships can be created between individual assets, a user with administrator permissions must first create the relevant relationship types. Administrators can define a set of relationship types that are specific to the requirements of your organization.
  1. Go to the relevant asset page, click the Relationships tab, then click the Add Relationships button, positioned to the right of the Filter field.
Note: If you do not have create relationships permissions, you will not have access to the Add Relationships button.
  2. In the Add Relationships dialog, select a Relationship Type from the grid, or use the Search field to locate the appropriate choice.
Relationship types with no assets are included in the list.
You cannot select, for example, parent-child relationships, or other relationship types, such as limited cardinality ones, which have already been satisfied. In such instances, a tooltip is available that explains why it cannot be selected.
Diagram and Diagram Use predicate type relationships are not displayed.
  3. Click Select Assets.
Tip: Click the Information button, to the right of the appropriate asset, to display its details on the Information panel.
Note: If you highlight another asset in the grid, the details shown on the Information panel do not change. You need to click a different information button to see that asset's details.
  4. Select one or more assets from the grid, or use the Search or Filter fields to locate the relevant item.

To select all the assets on the current page, use the check box to the left of Available Assets.

Note: If a relationship type has a limited cardinality, such as one-to-one or many-to-one, there is no check box to the left of Available Assets. Radio buttons are displayed next to the assets in the grid, and you are only able to select one.
  5. Click Add Relationships.
Note: If the relationship type has custom fields that need to be populated, the Add Relationships button is replaced by the Set Relationship Properties button.

Clicking Set Relationship Properties displays the Add Relationships dialog with the appropriate Relationship Properties fields.
