You can export to your client system or server system metadata for all attributes in a data source, metadata for a single attribute (export to local system only), and values for a single attribute. The export process creates a .CSV file that you can share and view in other applications. The exported file includes the contents of each visible column, in the order in which the columns display in the tab.

Before exporting, you can hide and unhide columns, and change column positions. To modify columns in a tab view, see Column View Options.

To export the Attribute Summary for a data source

  1. Open a data source.
  2. In the Attribute Summary tab, select the rows you want to export by clicking the check box, or anywhere in the row, to highlight it. To select multiple rows, press the Ctrl or Shift key and click the rows you want to export. To select all rows on a page, click Select Page. To select rows on other Attribute Summary tab pages, click the next button at the bottom of the page.
  3. All columns in the view will be exported. To remove or add columns:
    1. Click Column View Options > Choose columns. The Edit Columns window opens.
    2. Move the columns you do not want exported to the Available Columns section.
    3. To change the order that columns display in the view, move columns up or down in the Included Columns section.
    4. Click Done.
  4. Click Export Rows and select Export Selected Rows or Export All Rows. The Export Rows window opens.
    Note:

    Choosing Export All Rows exports all rows, not just those shown in the current view. All rows export is available for server exports only.

  5. When exporting selected rows, for Export to select one of the following:
    • Select Server file system to export a file to the server system. The exported file(s) are saved in the default export location: (C:\Program Data\Trillium Software\MBSW\version\Data\export).
    • Select Local file system to export to your local file system.
  6. Enter a name for the .CSV file. Do not include any of the following invalid characters in the file name: \ / : * ? " < > |
  7. Click Export.

    For server exports, the file is exported to the default export location. If there is a file with the same name in the download location, it will be replaced with the new file.

  8. Optional: If you are exporting to your local system, do one of the following:
    • Click Save. The file is emostxported to your browser's default download location: C:\Users\username\Downloads. If there is a file with the same name in the download location, the file name will be appended with a unique number.
    • Click Save As to save the file to a specific location. In the Save As window, browse to the location where you want to save the file and click Save. If there is a file with the same name in the download location, you are prompted to replace the file. Click Yes to replace the file or No and then enter a unique name. Click Save.
    • Click Save and Open to save the file to the default location and open the file now. If there is a file with the same name in the download location, the new file name will be appended with a unique number.

Export metadata for a single attribute to local system

To export metadata for a single attribute to local system

  1. Open a data source.
  2. In the Data Source: Name panel, click Attribute Details.
  3. In the Attribute Name list, click the name of the attribute that contains the metadata you want to export. A tab opens (below the panel) showing metadata for the selected attribute.
  4. In the attribute metadata tab, select the rows you want to export by clicking the check box, or anywhere in the row, to highlight it. To select multiple rows, press the Ctrl or Shift key and click the rows you want to export. To select all rows on a page, click Select Page. To select rows on other pages, click the next button at the bottom of the page.
  5. Click Export Rows and select Export Selected Rows or Export All Rows. The Export Rows window opens.
    Note:

    Choosing Export All Rows exports all rows, not just those shown in the current view. All rows export is available for server exports only.

  6. Enter a name for the .CSV file. Do not include any of the following invalid characters in the file name: \ / : * ? " < > |
  7. Click Export.
  8. Open the file, or do one of the following:
    • Click Save. The file is exported to your browser's default download location: C:\Users\username\Downloads. If there is a file with the same name in the download location, the file name will be appended with a unique number.
    • Click Save As to save the file to a specific location. In the Save As window, browse to the location where you want to save the file and click Save. If there is a file with the same name in the download location, you are prompted to replace the file. Click Yes to replace the file or No and then enter a unique name. Click Save.

Export data values for a single attribute

To export data values for a single attribute

  1. Open a data source.
  2. In the Data Source: Name panel, click Attribute Details.
  3. In the Attribute Name list, click the name of the attribute that contains the values you want to export. A tab opens (below the panel) showing an overview of metadata for the selected attribute. A second tab opens showing values metadata for the attribute.
  4. In the attribute metadata tab, double-click a row highlighted in blue that has a value larger than 0 to open a tab showing data rows or values, and associated metadata.

    For example, clicking the Strings row opens a tab showing all unique string values discovered in the attribute, and metadata such as the number of times (frequency) the string occurs, the length of the string, and the string's patterns and masks.

  5. In the attribute values tab, select the rows you want to export by clicking the check box, or anywhere in the row, to highlight it. To select multiple rows, press the Ctrl or Shift key and click the rows you want to export. To select all rows on a page, click Select Page. To select rows on other pages, click the next button at the bottom of the page.
  6. Click Export Rows and select Export Selected Rows or Export All Rows. The Export Rows window opens.

  7. When exporting selected rows, for Export to select one of the following:

  9. When you export all rows, the Rows for Export section displays. Choose an export option:
    • All rows. All available rows will be exported.
    • Maximum rows (the default). Only the specified number of rows will be exported. Enter a value up to 2147483647. The default is 5000000. This restriction ensures that a large dataset export will not exceed the file limits imposed on .CSV files.
  10. Click Export.

    For server exports, the file is exported to the default export location. If there is a file with the same name in the download location, it will be replaced with the new file.

  11. Optional: If you are exporting to your local system, do one of the following:
