When you discover dependencies, you configure how unique the dependency analysis should be and whether to run analysis against a single attribute or multiple attributes.
To configure options for dependencies
- In the Create or Discover Dependencies window, click the Configure tab.

To configure discover options, keep the defaults or change them as follows:
Configure Option Description Dependency uniqueness: At least n %
Enter a percentage that indicates the level of uniqueness that qualifies a dependency. The default is 98%. Entering 98 indicates that you want to find trends in the data that are consistently unique 98% of the time.
- Example:

If you have attributes Gender Code and Gender Description, and Gender Code has a value of 1 and Gender Description has a value of Female in at least 98% of the rows, this will be flagged as a potential dependency.
Excluded attributes: Those less than n % unique
Enter a value that indicates the percentage of uniqueness required to include an attribute. The default is 2%.

If you enter 2%, any attribute that is less than 2% unique is excluded. Verify an attribute’s uniqueness by examining its Value Dist % metadata. The higher the percentage, the higher the number of values that occur only once in the attribute, and therefore, the greater the level of unique values. If there are fifteen (15) values and no value is repeated in any row, the Value Dis % is 100%. Any percentage less than 100% indicates that the attribute has one or more duplicate values contained in multiple rows.
Dependency type:
Select one of the following:
- Single attribute - Dependencies based on one left-hand side attribute.
- Multiple attributes - Dependencies based on combined left-hand side attributes.
Number of attributes that represent a compound dependency:
When you select Multiple Attributes as the dependency type, enter the maximum number of combined attributes to include in the analysis. The higher the number, the longer the analysis will take. The default is 2. - (Optional) Click Reset to Defaults to revert options back to the defaults.

Do one of the following:
- Click Continue to save your settings and open the Finish tab. See Configure Sampling and Finish Discovered Dependencies.
- Click Cancel to close the window without saving your work.
