The ODBC data connection allows you to directly connect to an external database (and, in some cases, data warehouse) without installing any external component. For example, using the ODBC data connection, you can read from an Oracle database without the Oracle client.

Guidelines:
  • For the ODBC connection, drivers are installed with the TSS server software. For ODBC (Vendor) connections, you use the drivers supplied by the database vendors.
  • You can create a connection to access data sources residing in 64-bit databases.depending on the data source and operating system you are using.
  • The ODBC data connection can be configured on Windows and Linux systems. The ODBC data connection does not require a port. It uses the same port as the TSS server and is installed as part of the server installation.
  • Before using the ODBC data connection, configure a Data Source Name (DSN) with information about the specific database you want the connection to point to. You will be prompted for the DSN name when you add an ODBC data connection to the repository. For more information, see the Trillium Repository Administrator's Guide. To access Trillium documentation, see Product Documentation.
  • Teradata databases require the database client to be installed on the same system.
