Support Lifecycle
Development and maintenance of the Connect CDC (SQData) product is a continuous delivery process. That is enhancements as well as required modifications are made in response to customer and prospect requests, compatibility with operating systems as well as new versions of source and target datastores.
This support strategy began with development of the product for zOS where we have followed IBM's lead and continue that practice on AIX, Linux and Windows and the various datastores supported on those platforms. The only case where full support for a datastore ended early, was Microsoft SQL Server Capture. That capture was based on undocumented logging methods that were reverse engineered. Support ended when SQData was ac- quired by Precisely because the Connect CDC Share product supports SQL Server's current documented method of exposing Change Data.
All software vendors use the term "end-of-life" to describe the point beyond which an aging product is no longer supported. Precisely Connect CDC (SQData) will support operating systems and datastores that are still supported by their respective vendors. There are often two dates, a base and an extended End of Support date. Precisely can match those dates to accommodate customers that have agreements with those vendors but may also charge an additional fee for extended End of Support.
Some features and functions may not be supported for all operating system and datastore combinations. That may occur when an enhancement is dependent on a feature introduced or deprecated by the operating system or datastore vendor. Precisely will always consider alternatives before itself deprecating functionality but cannot guarantee that will always be possible, for example:
- The last release of Version 3 was V3.14 which supports all operating systems and datastores supported by V4 except Oracle 19.
- Version 4 introduced Db2/z Capture with schema evolution and also requires version 4 Apply and Replicator Engines.
- Engine versions are designed to work with older Capture/Publishers. Precisely recommends using Engine versions equal to or newer than Capture/Publishers because changes in Capture functionality may be accompanied by changes in Engine functionality. Precisely recommends testing configurations combining newer Captures with older Engines before production implementation.
