| Introduced in version 6.2 | Introduced Oracle XStream Out, an optional, Oracle-licensed alternative to LogMiner. |
Oracle XStream Out is an optional alternative to LogMiner for capturing changes from Oracle sources. LogMiner remains the default capture method. You can enable XStream Out on a per-server basis in the Server Properties dialog.
Oracle has indicated that future support for LogMiner may be limited. XStream Out provides a supported, Oracle-licensed path forward for Oracle change capture.
Benefits
XStream Out provides the following advantages over LogMiner-based capture:
Near real-time change delivery
Committed transactions only — no partial or rolled-back transactions
No transaction interleaving
Support for all major Oracle data types
Simplified LOB processing
No log management required
Oracle-licensed and supported
Licensing and software requirements
The following are required to use XStream Out:
An Oracle GoldenGate license is required. GoldenGate must be enabled for XStream OUT capture to work.
Oracle Instant Client — the Connect CDC installer prompts for the installation location.
Important: Theojdbc11.jarincluded in Connect CDC must match the version of your Oracle Instant Client installation. Oracle continuously releases new versions of Instant Client. If you download a version that is newer than the driver shipped with Connect CDC, connection will fail with a JDBC-OCI native library version mismatch error ([OM:02924]). To resolve this, copy theojdbc11.jarfrom your Instant Client installation directory to the JDBC folder in your Connect CDC installation.
XStream Out admin user
The user account used for XStream Out administration depends on the Oracle database configuration:
Non-pluggable database: The replication user is used as the XStream Out admin user.
Pluggable database (PDB): The CDB root user specified on the PDB Settings tab is used as the XStream Out admin user.
Post-installation requirements for pluggable databases
After running Install Metabase on a pluggable database with XStream Out enabled, confirm the following in CDB$ROOT:
A tablespace exists in CDB$ROOT for the XStream Out admin user.
A quota has been granted to the XStream Out admin user on that tablespace.
The default tablespace for the XStream Out admin user is set in CDB$ROOT.
Limitations
Bi-directional replication: Bi-directional replication is not supported when XStream Out is used as the Oracle source. To support bi-directional replication, the source must use LogMiner-based or Trigger-based capture.
