This section describes how to create a Kafka server that uses Schema Registry (Protobuf) as the message format.
To create a new server:
-
Select the EDMM and expand Hosts, Servers, Tables node.
- Select DBMS servers > New Server.
The Server Properties dialog box opens.
- Enter the required information:
Parameter Value DBMS type: KafkaMessage format: Schema Registry (Protobuf) - Select a Partition scheme:
- Source Table Name: Partitions messages by source table name.
- Distribution Key: Partitions messages by a hash of user-specified key columns. Select this option to enable tombstone handling for DELETE operations.
- Round Robin: Kafka distributes messages automatically with no key.
Important: The Enable Kafka Tombstone records option is only available when Partition is set to Distribution Key. If Partition is Round Robin or Source Table Name, the tombstone option is unchecked and disabled. - Select an Images for update mode:
- After image only: Default. Connect CDC writes only after values to the record.
- Both in the same record: Connect CDC writes both before and after values to the same record.
- Each in a separate record: Connect CDC writes before and after values to separate records.
- Click OK or Apply.
The Server Properties dialog closes.
- From the Director, select a table in the Distributions node. Connect CDC registers Protobuf schemas in Confluent Schema Registry:
- When Partition is set to Distribution Key or tombstone records are enabled, Connect CDC registers two schemas: one for the key (containing primary key columns) and one for the value (containing non-key columns and metadata).
- For all other partition schemes without tombstone, Connect CDC registers a value schema only.
Connect CDC publishes CDC events as Protobuf messages to the configured Kafka topic.
