Add an account to the database

The DLADD command adds a new account to the DLimit database. The account name may be any valid account name consisting of 1–23 alphanumeric characters. If the account name already exists in the database an error message is issued and return code 44 is set. Account values (warning percentage, space limit, and other values) can either be explicitly defined using the DLADD parameters or can be copied from a MODEL account, if one exists. If no MODEL account is specified, system defaults are used for unspecified values. After the account has been added to the database, the account values may be changed by using the DLALTER command.

Note: If the account name already exists, DLADD will fail and return code 44.

The command requires CONTROL authority to the DSL.$CONTROL resource in the FACILITY class.

Note: Ensure the invoking userid has the required CONTROL authority to avoid authorization failures.

account-name

Function: This is a required positional parameter. The DLADD command adds a new account to the DLimit database. This positional parameter specifies the name of the account.

Default: None

Format: The account name may be any valid name consisting of 1–23 alphanumeric characters.

CURRENT( space )

Function: This is an optional parameter. The CURRENT parameter specifies the current amount of space used by the account. Use it to set the value to some amount or to reset the current space value to zero.

Default: None

Format examples: CURRENT(numeric_value; unit); CURRENT(1.205G)

Valid units:

  • B — bytes
  • K — kilobytes
  • M — megabytes
  • G — gigabytes
  • T — tracks
  • C — cylinders

DESCRIPTION('descriptive name')

Function: This is an optional parameter. The DESCRIPTION parameter allows a descriptive name up to 20 characters to be given to the account. The name can include embedded blanks but must be enclosed in single quotes.

Default: None

Format example: DESCRIPTION('PRODUCTION PAYROLL')

DISPLAY(option)

Function: This is an optional parameter. The DISPLAY parameter specifies how the space values in the account are to be displayed. The default is to display space in kilobytes, megabytes, or gigabytes depending on the number size. To display space in tracks (3390 device type assumed), specify the DISPLAY parameter for the account.

Default: DISPLAY(NOTRACKS)

Format example: DISPLAY(TRACKS)

HWM( space )

Function: This is an optional parameter. The high-water mark (HWM) specifies the highest amount of space that has been used in the account up to the current time. The currently used space may be lower than the high-water mark if some space has been released. Use this parameter to set the value or to reset the high-water mark to zero.

Default: None

Format examples: HWM(numeric_value; unit); HWM(0)

Valid units are the same as for CURRENT:

  • B — bytes
  • K — kilobytes
  • M — megabytes
  • G — gigabytes
  • T — tracks
  • C — cylinders

LIST

Function: This is an optional parameter. The LIST parameter indicates that the account values are to be displayed after the command completes. If LIST is not specified, the values are not displayed.

Default: NOLIST

Format: LIST

MAX( space )

Function: This is an optional parameter. MAX specifies the maximum amount of space that may be allocated to the account before space-exceeded messages are issued or new allocations are prevented. If the amount currently allocated to the account exceeds the MAX value, then space-exceeded messages are issued from DLimit or allocations may be denied by DLimit, depending on the MODE setting. A value of zero indicates no limit.

Default: None

Format example: MAX(numeric_value; unit); MAX(200G)

Valid units:

  • B — bytes
  • K — kilobytes
  • M — megabytes
  • G — gigabytes
  • T — tracks
  • C — cylinders

MODE(option)

Function: This is an optional parameter. The MODE parameter determines the action taken when a request for space causes the account to exceed the MAX value. The default is MODE(NONE), which means take the default behavior from the $CONTROL record as specified by the DLSYS command.

Mode options and behavior:

  • MODE(ACTIVE) — When a request for space causes the limit for an account to be exceeded, the space request is denied. This will result in a JCL error, an allocation failure, or an out-of-space abend, since the request cannot be satisfied. If the account has exceeded its MAX value, no further space is allowed until usage falls below the MAX.
  • MODE(WARN) — When a request for space causes the limit to be exceeded, an error message is issued but the space request is honored and the allocation proceeds.
  • MODE(INACTIVE) — No action is taken when a request for space is assigned to the account. Space amounts are not changed; the account is essentially dormant.
  • MODE(NONE) — Use the default recording mode from the $CONTROL record.
  • MODE(TRACK) — Space amounts are accumulated in the DLimit database, but no warnings are issued and no space requests are denied.

Default: MODE(NONE)

Format: MODE(ACTIVE | WARN | TRACK | INACTIVE | NONE)

MODEL(account-name)

Function: This is an optional parameter. The MODEL parameter specifies an existing account whose characteristics are used when adding or altering accounts. Values for the new account (space, recording mode, warning percentage, etc.) are obtained from the specified model account. The account-name must specify an existing DLimit account in the current database.

Default: None

Format: MODEL(account-name)

NOTIFY(option)

Function: This is an optional parameter. The NOTIFY parameter indicates what actions are taken when the space used exceeds the limit set by WARN. NOTIFY(WARN) indicates a warning is to be issued. NOTIFY(NOWARN) indicates that no warnings are to be issued even if a WARN(percent) value is specified.

Default: None

Format: NOTIFY(WARN | NOWARN)

NOTIFY(... USERID(userid) )

Function: Optional. The USERID subparameter specifies a TSO userid to receive warning messages when the account exceeds the WARN percentage.

Note: If NOTIFY(NOWARN) is specified, warnings are not issued to either a TSO userid or the DIF log file. However, the USERID value remains stored and will be used again if NOTIFY(WARN) is specified. To nullify stored values, specify NOTIFY(NOWARN USERID() LOG()).

Default: None

Format: Any valid TSO userid

NOTIFY(... LOG(ddname) )

Function: Optional. The LOG subparameter specifies the DD name to which warning messages are written. The DD name must be coded in the DIF catalogued procedure.

Note: If NOTIFY(NOWARN) is specified, warnings are not issued to the DIF log file, but the stored LOG value remains until explicitly nulled via NOTIFY(NOWARN USERID() LOG()).

Default: None

Format: Any valid DDname that is also specified in the DIF catalogued procedure.

WARN(percent)

Function: This is an optional parameter. The WARN parameter specifies a percentage of the MAX value at which a warning message is issued indicating that used space is about to exceed the allowable limit.

Valid range: 1–100. Specifying 100 indicates no early warning; a warning will be issued only when the account is over the limit. The default is 100.

Default: WARN(100)

Format: A numeric value between 1 and 100
