To encrypt passwords in the client properties file, use the crypt-properties script. Password encryption is optional but recommended. Unencrypted passwords in the properties file may be visible to unauthorized users.

By default, the crypt-properties script applies 56 bit PBE-DES encryption. To use 56 bit encryption, see the Windows, UNIX, or z/OS chapters of this guide. If you prefer AES 256 bit encryption, complete the procedure that follows, after editing the client properties file.
