Now that we have set the stage, it is time to begin monitoring. The CMMRULES member, as delivered, does not activate the FETCH EXIT which produces the SMF records that track the execution of modules. This exit can be activated by uncommenting the DEFENV statement which specifies MODE(ACTIVE) and commenting the DEFENV statement with MODE(INACTIVE). Then refresh the rules by specifying command:
F DIF,REF CMM

Now SMF records will be written that will allow us to keep track of the execution of COBOL programs.
