MON-Explorer GUI is the PC GUI interface for the Monitor product. The GUI can be installed on as many workstations as you wish, but this would normally be limited to indi- viduals working with the storage management or the operations staff. Since the applica- tion can connect to remote databases managed by the MON-ExplorerHDB component, geographic location is not usually a problem. A storage manager in Raleigh, NC can easily examine an MON-ExplorerHDB database residing in a center located in Atlanta, GA.
The MON-Explorer GUI can be used to examine the database for historical information and trend analysis. For example, the database can be searched for storage events that occured on a selected volume at a specific time to help answer questions about why a space problem was encountered and what job caused to the problem. Also, the MON- ExplorerHDB service periodically consolidates the DADSM event records into trend anal- ysis records that can be examined with the MON-Explorer GUI.
