Following changes are introduced in this release:
  • The nature_Epci attribute has been removed because it is not maintained in INSEE sources. The definition of the: Urban Unit (UU), Urban Catchment Area (AAV), Living Area (BV), Employment Zones (ZE) zoning have been significantly corrected with the addition of a series of indicators.

In addition, the typology of density of municipalities has been enriched. Here are the 7 new indicators added for this vintage:

    1. UU_STATUT_LIB: Status of the municipality in the urban unit
    2. UU_TYPE_LIB: Type of urban unit
    3. BV_TYPE_LIB: Type of living area
    4. BV_TYPE_COM_LIB: Category of the municipality in relation to the living area
    5. DENS_LIB: Degree of density (3 positions)
    6. DENS_AAV_LIB: AAV cross-density degree (5 posts)
    7. DENS7_LIB: Degree of density(7 positions)
  • In 2024, the creation of new municipalities have been started to rise again:

    • Between January 2, 2024, and January 1, 2025, 110 municipalities were merged to create 46 new ones. However, the municipality of Neussargues en Pinatelle (Cantal), which was formed in 2016, will no longer exist. This is because the five municipalities that made it up—Celles, Chalinargues, Chavagnac, Neussargues-Moissac, and Sainte-Anastasie—are being re-established as separate entities. Additionally, 8 municipalities have changed their names, 10 delegated or associated municipalities have been abolished, and 11 municipalities have switched districts.

    • The new communes of Conques-en-Rouergue (Aveyron), Aurseulles (Calvados), Orée d'Anjou (Maine-et-Loire), and Porte des Pierres Dorées (Rhône), which were created in previous years, are changing their codes. This is due to the transfer of their capital from one delegated commune to another. You can find more details about the municipalities and their changes on the INSEE COG website here.
    • The legal populations are based on those of 2022 as of 01/01/2025.
