The Third Quarter 2024 International Postal Database contains updated country data. For a complete list of countries and the level at which the database recognizes countries, see Country Levels.
Postcode format in the world
Different countries have diverse approaches to defining their postcode systems, including their placement within addresses, mandatory usage and alphanumeric composition. Understanding these details is crucial for correct address processing. Therefore, we publish the list summarizing postcode formats per country, indicating whether they are mandatory, which countries use postcodes, and their composition. You can download it at: Postcode Formats.
Countries with improved addressing data
In the current 2024.3 edition, the Universal POST*CODE® DataBase combines data sourced from CTT – Correios de Portugal's postcode database, with additional address points from openaddresses.io. As a result, the database now includes 2,644,674 street names and house numbers, a significant increase from the previous 296,086.
This update aligns with similar enhancements made to other datasets in previous updates. The following datasets currently provide enhanced data:
- Italy: Street names and house numbers, to be updated annually.
- Netherlands: Street names and house numbers, including full postcodes with two additional characters, to be updated quarterly.
- Poland: House numbers, to be updated quarterly.
