If you cannot use the product’s Installation Wizard, use this checklist to upgrade products on a system. This checklist is valid for version, update, and service pack (SP) upgrades. To install Quick EDD, use EDD HA 04 Installation EN documentation.

Important!

Although License Manager supports these product upgrades, these instructions are not appropriate for the following scenarios:

  • If you need to upgrade Assure Security version 6.0, or upgrade from Cilasoft 5.3x products to Assure Security 6.0, do not use these instructions. The Assure Security product requires extensive, specialized steps to prepare for upgrading and to resume operations following an upgrade. Those steps, along with installation instructions, are included in the Assure Security Installation Readme document, which is available from the download page in Support.

  • If you need to upgrade iTERA from version 6.0 to 6.1, use the iTERA Availability 6.1 Upgrade Guide. If you need to upgrade iTERA from version 6.1 to 6.2, use the iTERA Availability 6.2 Upgrade Guide. iTERA customers should use this checklist only after version 6.1 or v6.2 has been installed.

To upgrade a product, do the following on all participating systems:

Note: iOptimize is installed and used on a single system.
  1. To check the check the contents of the system library list, type the command DSPSYSVAL SYSVAL(QSYSLIBL) and press Enter. Verify that the IBM-supplied library QSYS2 is in the system library list. If necessary, add the appropriate library to the system library list using Using best practices to set up a library list.

  2. Download the Readme documentation associated with the software level you are installing from Support. Check the Readme for any special “Before Installing” instructions and perform any that are necessary for your environment.

Note: It is recommended that you run CHKLIBREF to check for any library references that will prevent the upgrade from taking place. For version 9.0.37 or 10.0.09, the command is available in the LAKEVIEW library. Refer to the Knowledgebase article to use CHKLIBREF and instructions for downloading the stream for instances before 9.0.37 or 10.0.09. For more information, see Working with product library public authority.
  3. Prepare for the upgrade by ending products.
    1. End the instance of the product you are upgrading.
    2. Also, if any other instances of this product and any other Precisely products already exist on a system where you plan to upgrade, you may need to end those products. License Manager is used by all Precisely products on System i. If the software installation process finds a lower level of License Manager on a system than what is on the installation media, it will automatically upgrade License Manager before upgrading the product. For that reason, other instances of the product and other Precisely products need to be ended when both the installed version of License Manager and the version of License Manager on the installation media are at 9.0.12.00 or earlier.

      See one of the following:

Precisely recommends synchronizing Precisely System i product upgrades based on the schedule for your high availability or disaster recovery product.

  4. Install the product on a system using the instructions in Installing products.

  5. Check the Readme documentation for any special “After Installing” instructions and perform any that are required for your environment.
  6. If you received cumulative or restricted fixes, install them using the instructions in Installing fixes.

  7. After you have updated all the installations you want, sign off the system.
  8. Sign back on to the system.

  9. Start up your environment again.
