The Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 (GDA2020) is an Australian national datum that replaces GDA94 as of January 1, 2020.

Note: NTv2 transformation is disabled by default.

GDA2020 Datum

To allow the NTv2 adjustments while converting to or from GDA2020 Datum, two new grid shift files GDA94_GDA2020_conformal.gsb and GDA94_GDA2020_conformal_and_distortion.gsb are installed. By default, the NTv2 adjustments are turned off. These adjustments can be enabled to comply with the new standard. There are four conversions to enable the adjustments by editing the NTV2.xml file. For more information, see Enabling or Disabling NTv2 Transform.

Note: The editing of the XML file is the same in Spatial and Pro, but the location of the file and how you get it out of a .jar in Spatial are unique.

Changing the enabling for the GSB marked “GDA94_GDA2020_conformal.gsb” will currently not change any behavior. The use of the new datum for GDA2020 (Datum #1028) is functionally equivalent, however, if users require processing GDA2020 through NTv2 grid files, then NTv2 can be enabled by changing the “false” to “true” in the “Enabled” field. Also, note that conversions to or from GDA 94 (116) and Australia-National-AGD84 (1006) can be set separately.
