For connecting to Hive via JDBC on Windows at both design and run time, you need to download the jars listed here: the set under the comment regarding "using remote hiveserver in non-kerberos mode" and, if using Kerberos authentication, the set under the comment "using kerberos secure mode". The folder(s) containing these jar files must be in the DriverClassPath in the JDBC configuration file.
