To activate the SAP Field Extension Framework, you need to switch on the appropriate Business Function.

Warning: Perform the following procedure during a quiet time on your system. The activation can take some time and will cause many programs to require recompiling. We recommend locking all users during the activation process.

To switch on business function

  1. Log on to your customizing client.

  2. Start transaction SFW5.

  3. Confirm the security information pop-up by clicking Continue.

  4. Expand the ENTERPRISE_EXTENSIONS node and you will see the reversible Business Function /TSSERP/EXTENSIONS.

  5. Select the Planned Status checkbox for /TSSERP/EXTENSIONS and click Check Changes. You should receive the message “No errors were found”.

  6. Click Activate Changes.

You will see the following pop-up which tells you that background job SFW_ACTIVATE_SF0X was started to activate the Business Function.

The activation job SFW_ACTIVATE_SF0X is started in the background. While the Business Function appears to be active immediately in SFW5, it is not fully activated until job SFW_ACTIVATE_SF0X completes. Note the status shown in transaction SFW5 (in newer releases).

Similar to transactions SAINT and SPAM, you may encounter errors similar to the following after confirming the pop-up in SFW5. This is normal.

  7. You can restart transaction SFW5 to see the results of the activation. While the Business Function appears to be active immediately in SFW5, it is not fully activated until job SFW_ACTIVATE_SF0X completes.

  8. Start transaction SM37 and monitor job SFW_ACTIVATE_SF0X until it completes. Depending on the capacity of you system, this job can run for 30 minutes or longer.

  9. After job SFW_ACTIVATE_SF0X completes, the Business Function is fully activated. If necessary, you can review the DDIC and Switch Framework logs in transaction SFW5.
