There are disk reads that take place at the startup of each process. Reads of run-time resources into memory from the software installation and the project directory paths are small and short. But if your project includes the Postal Matcher process, postal directory reading can be large and long.

For example, the US postal directory consists of three files, USINDEX1, USINDEX2 and USBASE. These files must be read as follows:

  • USINDEX1 is 365k and by default is read upon startup.

  • USINDEX2 is 105mb and by default, is simply opened during startup. It is accessed on disk constantly during batch processing.

  • USBASE is currently 1.38 GB. By default it is opened during startup and accessed on disk constantly during processing.
