Shipped default behavior of switch procedures support the premise that replicated system settings and system values are intended to be the same on both production and backup nodes before and after a switch operation.

Important! If you need to maintain different system settings or values on the production and backup nodes and want to automate ensuring that their values are appropriately changed as part of switch processing, contact your Certified MIMIX Consultant for assistance. This environment requires creating a relationship between two or more application groups through the use of customized step programs.

The MXAPYSSB step program causes the latest staged value on the target node to be applied as part of switch processing. This step is automatically included and enabled within procedures for planned switch (SWTPLAN), unplanned switch (SWTUNPLAN), and virtual switch (SWTVRT).

The SWTVRT procedure also includes two disabled steps. User action is required to enable these steps within a virtual switch procedure:

  • MXCAPSSTGT - Capture target system settings to a library.

  • MXAPYSSVS - VS recovery of captured target system settings.

Steps for customizing: Additional shipped step programs are available to add to procedures as needed.

  • MXAPYTGTSS - Apply captured target system settings to backup.

  • MXCAPSSSRC - Capture source system settings with immediate apply.

Steps for maintaining different values based on node role: The following steps are associated with environments that need to maintain different system settings or values on the production and backup and have the switch process maintain appropriate settings on the new primary and backup following a switch. If you have this environment, contact your Certified MIMIX Consultant for assistance in properly configuring your environment. These steps are not automatically added to any procedures:

  • MXENDRAG - End a related application group. You must update the program source for the step to identify the name of the related application group to be ended by a controlling application group, and the step must be added to the END procedure for the controlling application group.

  • MXSTRRAG - Start a related application group. You must update the program source for the step to identify the name of the related application group to be started by a controlling application group, and the step must be added to the START procedure for the controlling application group.

  • MXSWTRAGP - Start a planned switch of a related app. group. You must update the program source for the step to identify the name of the related application group to be switched by a controlling application group, and the step must be added to the SWTPLAN procedure for the controlling application group.

  • MXSWTRAGUN - Start an unplanned switch of a related app. group. You must update the program source for the step to identify the name of the related application group to be switched by a controlling application group, and the step must be added to the SWTUNPLAN procedure for the controlling application group.
