MIMIX system journal replication processes use save/restore when replicating most types of objects. If there is conflict for the use of an object between MIMIX and some other process, the initial save of the object may fail. When such a failure occurs, MIMIX will attempt to process the object by automatically starting delay or retry processing using the values configured in the data group definition.

For the initial save of *FILE objects, save-while-active capabilities will be used unless it is disabled. By default, save-while-active is only used when saving *FILE objects; it is not used when saving other library-based object types, DLOs, or IFS objects. However, you can specify to have MIMIX attempt saves of DLOs and IFS objects using save-while-active.

Values for retry processing are specified in the First retry delay interval (RTYDLYITV1) and Number of times to retry (RTYNBR) parameters in the data group definition. After the initial failed save attempt, MIMIX delays for the number of seconds specified in the RTYDLYITV1 value, before retrying the save operation. This is repeated for the number of times that is specified for the RTYNBR value in the data group definition. If the object cannot be saved after the attempts specified in RTYNBR, then MIMIX uses the delay interval value which is specified in the RTYDLYITV2 parameter. The save is then attempted for the number of retries specified in the RTYNBR parameter. For the initial default values for a data group, this calculates to be 7 save attempts (1 initial attempt, 3 attempts using the first delay value of 5 seconds, and 3 attempts using the second delay value of 300 seconds), in a time frame of approximately 20 minutes.
