The shipped default values for journal definitions and data group definitions automatically allow target journal inspection to occur. Journal definitions that existed before upgrading to MIMIX version 7.1 do not automatically allow target journal inspection. These instructions describe how to change an existing configuration to enable target journal inspection.

Target journal inspection is performed for journals on systems that are the target for replication. Results are reported through data groups. To get complete results for a data group about inappropriate access to its replicated objects on the target system, two journal definitions must be enabled for inspection: one for the user journal on the target system, and one for the system journal (QAUDJRN) on the target system. The needs of switchable data groups and data groups that share journals must also be considered. Each journal definition enabled for target journal inspection can report results for multiple data groups.

Do the following to enable target journal inspection:

  1. Of the systems that can be target systems for replication, determine the systems  on which you want target journal inspection to run when those systems are the target for replication.

  2. On those systems, determine which journals you want to be inspected. It is recommended that you allow inspection for the system journal (QAUDJRN) and any user journals on a system.

Inspection does not occur for the journals in the following journal definitions: JRNMMX, MXCFGJRN, and those that identify the remote journal used in RJ configurations (whose names typically end with @R, as shown in Figure 14.)

  3. From a management system, do the following to change the appropriate journal definitions:

    1. From the MIMIX Basic Main Menu, type an 11 (Configuration menu) and press Enter.

    2. From the MIMIX Configuration Menu, type a 3 (Work with journal definitions) and press Enter.

  4. The Work with Journal Definitions display appears. For each journal definition you need to change, do the following:

    1. Type a 2 (Change) next to the journal definition for the system you want and press Enter. The Change Journal Definition (CHGJRNDFN) display appears.

    2. Verify that the value of the Target journal state prompt is *ACTIVE.

    3. Specify *YES for the Target journal inspection prompt.

    4. Press Enter.

  5. The next step to perform depends on your configuration. Do one of the following:

    • If you have only data groups of type *OBJ, skip to Step 7.

    • If you have data groups of type *ALL or *DB, those data groups which include the system identified in a user journal definition must be verified and changed if necessary. Type 13 (Data group definitions) next to the journal definition you changed and press Enter.

  6. The Work with Data Group Definitions display appears with a list of the data groups that use the selected journal definition. For each of the data groups on the display do the following:

Note: If the selected journal definition was for a system journal (QAUDJRN), a target journal of an RJ environment, or is no longer used by a data group, the list will be blank.
    1. Type a 2 (Change) next to the data group you want and press Enter.

    2. The Change Data Group Definition (CHGDGDFN) display appears. Press F9 (All parameters).

    3. Check the value specified for Journal on target (JRNTGT). Change the value to *YES if necessary.

    4. Press Enter.

  7. To make the changes effective, do one of the following:
    • If you changed data group definitions, end and restart the data groups.
    • If you changed only journal definitions (you did not perform Step 6), specify the name of the target system in the following command and press Enter:
      STRMMXMGR SYSDFN(name) TGTJRNINSP(*YES)
