Metadata, in its simplest definition, is data about data. Metadata describes the content, source, history, structure and support that may exist for a data product or entity. Precisely Software metadata exists in two forms:

Metadata for the complete product is included in the xml file in the _metadata folder.
- Metadata as keyword and value pairs can be found within each MapInfo format table (.TAB file).
