In Release 2, there was more inconsistency among ethnicity variables for England, Northern Ireland, and Wales than for other variables for these countries. Fourteen of the 24 ethnicity variables were harmonized with a high level of confidence. With the addition of Scotland, only a small number of variables could be harmonized due to differences in verbiage and response. For this reason, Scotland’s ethnicity variables were not harmonized with those from England, Northern Ireland, and Wales. These variables are included as an extension to the B3 – Ethnicity Bundle and are defined in the census2011_harmonized_gbr_v2023_variables.xlsx workbook.
