The August 2024 (2024.08) release will feature the following updates:

  • Introduction of companion ZIP Code layers that do not contain any filler (MX-prefix) ZIP Codes. This is being done to support certain use cases so customers can take advantage of assigning real ZIP Codes to contiguous areas in the United States. Standard ZIP Code boundary layers will remain unchanged. Files included in the product are listed below. New files appear in italics:
    • ZIP_Boundaries_ST.*
    • ZIP_Boundaries_NoFill_ST.*
    • ZIP_Centroids_ST.*
    • ZIP_Centroids_NoFill_ST.*
    • ZIP_Alt_Names_US_YYYYMM
    • zip_changelog_YYYYMM
    • zip_changelog_NoFill_YYYYMM
  • Added and deleted ZIP Codes in the Change Log will be calculated using the ZIP Centroids layer to give a more accurate accounting of unique new and removed ZIP Codes.
  • The format of the zip_code_boundaries_and_centroids_data_schema.xlsx workbook will change. This change will implement the inclusion of new fields. Follow this link for more information: Community Announcement on Schema Changes.

In 2022, the US Census Bureau replaced the original eight counties in Connecticut with 9 new planning regions that are considered county equivalents. These planning regions have new names and FIPS codes. Because Precisely relies on USPS to provide a single county value for each ZIP Code and because the USPS has not yet made this change to their source data, a future release of ZIP Code Boundaries and Centroids will be populated with this information.
