Tip: If you are not already familiar with how the different elements of Data360 Govern fit together to create a configurable framework, see Understanding the framework.
Data quality is an assessment of the fitness of data to serve its purpose in a given context. Data quality standards are typically expressed as pass rate percentages. If your organization has a data quality process in place, you can take the outputs of that process and incorporate the results into your data governance effort in Data360 Govern.
A user with administrator permissions must first create the required data quality rule types for your company. The types of quality rule that have been created in your system will vary depending on the data governance requirements of your company. The following rule types are commonly used:
- Informational - A rule that is purely informational, with no requirement to perform additional steps, for example, a rule defining a data event.
- Metric - A metric rule can be included as part of scoring for a related item.
- Quality Check - A rule to verify the quality of a data asset.
- Profile - A rule to verify the health and suitability of a data asset.
Tip: If you are an administrator and want information on configuring new quality rule types, see Establishing quality rules.
Once an administrator has created the required rule types for your system, you can:
- Browse the rules that have been added to your system, see Browsing quality rules.
- Create new rules, see Creating quality rules.
- Edit existing rules, see Editing quality rules.
- Relate rules to other assets in your system, see Relating quality rules to assets.
- Use the Data360 Govern APIs to upload data quality rule results into the system. Data360 Govern does not apply data quality checks itself, rather it accepts the outputs of outside data quality processes, see Using the API to post data quality rule results.
