When you select a specific asset, such as a business term, a model or a quality rule, the asset detail page displays. The tabs on the asset detail page allow you to view further information about the asset, and where applicable, the current status of the asset and any calculated scores.
If an asset has a description, an information icon displays next to its name on the asset page. Hover over the icon to display the description.
Depending on the asset type, different tabs are displayed, including:
- Definition
- Scoring
- Diagrams
- Relationships
- Responsibilities
- Assignments
- Comments
- Followers
- Change Log
- Children
- Hierarchy Diagram
Definition
The Definition tab displays the fields that have been configured on an asset. Fields in the same category are grouped together under the same heading, for example, Date Fields.
There is always a System Fields category which contains a set of default fields:
-
Asset UID - A unique identifier for the asset across Data360 Govern.
-
Asset Type UID - A unique identifier for the asset type across Data360 Govern.
Note: The Asset UID and the Asset Type UID are often used for identification purposes in the Data360 Govern REST API. -
Date Created - The date that the asset was created.
-
Date Last Modified - The date that the asset definition was last modified. This date does not track changes to the wider context of the asset, it only accounts for changes to the asset fields. For example, if a comment or a relationship is added on the asset, the date will not change, but if an asset field is edited, the date will be modified.
-
Created By - The creator of the asset.
-
Last Modified By - The last person to modify the asset definition.
Created By and Last Modified By are links. Left-click the link to display the relevant user profile in the Information panel. Right-click to display a menu:
- View Information - Displays the relevant user profile in the Information panel.
- Open - Replaces the current page with the asset page.
- Open in New Tab - Opens the asset page in a new tab.
By default, all categories are expanded, except for System Fields, which is always the last in the list. Fields without a category are assigned to the General one, together with any that are already assigned there. The General category is the first in the list and, if it is collapsed, only the fields it contains are hidden. All other categories remain visible. The collapsed state of a category is maintained on a user and asset type basis.
For Business Assets, the Definition tab is displayed by default.
In general, the different field types and tags display the same behavior in both the Definition tab and the Details tab of the Information panel:
-
A key icon displays next to the Name heading when the field is a key field.
- If a field is associated with a color, it is shown to the left of the field.
- Link fields are displayed in purple. If the link is an external link, an icon is also displayed after the link name. Left-clicking a link or a tag associated with a business or technical asset, a rule, model or policy, opens the Information panel. Right-clicking a link or a tag displays a menu. Left-clicking a link on other types of asset opens it in a new tab, while right-clicking it displays a menu.
- Boolean field types display a check mark on a green background for true, and a cross on a red background for false.
- Dates are displayed as words rather than just numbers, to avoid confusion.
- Scores have the appropriate color from the scoring band next to the field.
Scoring
A score is a percentage that represents the health of one aspect of an asset, based on a set of measures that are defined by the data governance program of your organization.
1) Score type - There are two types of score that can exist on an asset, a Governance Score and a Data Quality Score. If both score types have been calculated on an asset, you will see a tab for each score type. Click the relevant tab to view the corresponding score details.
2) Measures - Expand or collapse to display measure details, if measures have been defined on the score. A measure is a metric that can be independently configured for different asset types. For example, business term, application, and vendor assets can each have their own set of metrics to score how effectively the assets are being governed. If the name or description of a measure has been edited, an earlier version of a measure may show a different name and description from the most recent version.
3) Effective dates - Effective dates display the dates between which a measured result is valid. They are not the effective dates of the measure's version. Select a date in the right hand panel, to show the impact of a measured result for a defined time period, for example, from January 1 last year, to present. You can also view how changes to measure results affect the overall score calculations.
4) Measure results - Actual results.
5) Maximum results - Maximum possible results, which always equal 100% in total.
6) Scores - Overall Governance Score and Data Quality Score, where available. Scores are rounded to the nearest tenth of a percent, for example, 47.634% is displayed as 47.6%, and 38.01% is displayed as 38%. Hover over the score badges to see a tooltip containing additional information, including score thresholds and the last run date. The last run date is the most recent date that the score was calculated.
7) Score summary - Summarizes the latest score calculation, for example "Your Governance Score changed to 38% today" or "Your Governance Score has been 38% for 3 days".
8) Score history - The graph illustrates how the score has changed over time. Hover over the graph line to see the score on a specific date. Click a score on an effective date in the graph to display the measures for that effective date.
9) Score calculation changes - Lists the overall score for a specific date and indicates if the score has changed compared to the previous date. The list of scores will include an entry for any time the score calculation changes, even if the overall score remains the same. For example, on 4/17 a score is 50%, consisting of measure A (50%) = false and measure B (50%) = true. If on 5/17, measure A is now true, and measure B is false, the score would still be 50%, but a new entry would be listed because the results of the individual measures changed.
If the overall score has increased, a green arrow is displayed. If the overall score has decreased, a red arrow is displayed. If there was no change to the overall score, but there was a change in the calculation of the score, a gray diamond is displayed.
Administrators can create new score types and define measures.
Diagrams
The Diagrams tab provides a graphical representation of a selected asset in the context of its relationships, helping you to understand the impacts of any potential change to your data.
Relationships
The Relationships tab is available for Business Assets, Models, Policy assets and Quality rules, allowing you to relate business terms to applications, reports, processes and policies.
Responsibilities
The Responsibilities tab is available for Business Assets, Models and Quality rules, allowing you to establish ownership of assets, with owners taking responsibility for the accuracy and quality of the assets that they own.
Assignments
Lists the assignments associated with the selected asset, allowing you to track any outstanding items that relate to processes that you have either initiated (for example, proposing a new business term) or are responsible for progressing (for example, approving or rejecting modifications to assets).
The tab includes a count of the number of outstanding assignments associated with the asset.
The Assignments tab is available for Business Assets, Models, Policy assets and Quality rules.
Comments
The Comments tab contains user discussion of an asset. Click the tab to view the comments.
Followers
The Followers tab is available for Business Assets, Models and Quality rules, and provides a list of users who are watching the asset.
Change Log
The Change Log tab is available for all asset types, and provides a list of all modifications made to the asset over its lifetime.
The Change Log updates every couple of minutes.
Adding, editing and deleting field values are audited, as well as changes to relationships and adding responsibility overrides. The delete of an asset itself cannot be seen on the asset change log because you will not be able to get to the change log page. Changes in permissions, actions raised on an asset and followers are not included in the change log.
Children
The Children tab is available for assets that have one child or more, allowing you to view all hierarchical relationships.
You can export the details if required, by clicking the Export to Excel button, positioned above the table, to the right.
Hierarchy Diagram
The Hierarchy Diagram tab is only available for models, and displays the model structure in diagram form, rather than the default tree view.
