In the navigation bar, click Semantic Types.
On the Semantic Types tab, the list grid includes this information:
-
Name - The plain text name associated with the semantic type. The name also forms a link that opens the type's Definition page.
-
Qualifier - The semantic type itself.
- Status - Draft, Under Review or Certified.
-
Priority - The allotted priority.
-
Base Type - For example, date, number, string and similar.
Each row of the grid represents an individual semantic type. Select the row to display its details in the Information side panel.
An options menu button, displayed to the right of each row, enables you to open the individual semantic type in the same page, or in a new tab. You can also edit the semantic type, or delete user-defined ones.
If you are an administrator, the Create New Semantic Type button displays, at the top right of the grid.
The Change log tab is available on each semantic types page, however, there is not a change log tab for individual semantic types. An audit record is created when a semantic type is added or updated. There is a record for each field, it provides a list of all modifications made to the semantic type over its lifetime.
Exporting semantic types
Click the Export to Excel button, positioned to the right of the filter field.
An Excel file named "Filtered Semantic Type List day-mmm-dd-yyyy" is created.
- The file respects search and filter criteria, if defined.
- The export is not available for custom exports.
The semantic type details page
Click a semantic type from the list grid to open the semantic type details page. This page has Definition and Assets tabs.
The Definition tab functions in a similar way to the definition tab on the asset details page, although there are differences. All categories always display initially, but if you collapse them, the state is remembered.
The General category, consisting of:
-
The Name and Qualifier, in separate columns on the same row.
The same meaning as defined for the list grid columns on the The Semantics Types page.
-
Description - Optional field.
-
Threshold, Priority and Status, in separate columns on the same row.
The Threshold is the percentage of valid values in the sample data set that is needed in order to be classified with this semantic type.
The Priority determines the order in which the semantic type is considered against a data set, when profiling data. Higher priority matches take precedence.
The Status color is as follows:
- Stone: Draft.
- Orange: Under Review.
- Emerald: Certified.
-
Semantic Source - Only built-in is available at present.
The Asset Match Criteria category, consisting of:
-
The Match Type and Base Type, in separate columns on the same row.
Currently, only Advanced (JSON) is available as the Match Type.
Base Type is an optional field, and has the same meaning as defined for the list grid columns on the Semantic Types page.
-
JSON - A read-only JSON text area, which defines the semantic type. Also included on the Information side panel Details tab.
System Fields category, consisting of:
-
Semantic Type UID
-
Date Created
-
Date Last Modified
-
Created By - Displays a link to the user's profile.
-
Modified By - Displays a link to the user's profile.
The Assets tab displays a count badge to the right of the name, which is the total number of assets with the same semantic type. The Assets tab list grid includes:
-
Asset Path - The full path to the individual asset.
-
Asset Type - The asset type details.
Select the row to display its details in the Information side panel.
An options menu button, displayed to the right of each row, enables you to open the individual asset in the same page, or the page in a new tab.
Exporting a list of assets
To export the list of assets that is displayed on the Assets tab, click the Export to Excel button positioned to right of the filter field.
An Excel file named "Filtered Asset list for Semantic Type Name day-mmm-dd-yyyy" is created.
- The file respects search and filter criteria, if defined.
- The export is not available for custom exports.
The information side panel
When opened from the Semantic types page, the side panel functions the same as a normal information side panel, with the following exceptions:
-
It displays Details and Assets tabs. These generally contain the same information as the Definition and Assets tabs, on the semantic type's page.
-
The Details tab also includes a read-only JSON text area, which defines the semantic type.
The read-only JSON text area also displays on the Definition tab of the individual semantic type page.
-
The Assets tab displays a count badge to the right of its name, which is the total number of assets with the same semantic type.
Select the tab to display the list of asset paths.
Fields with more than one value, for example, Valid Locales or working days, are displayed on the Details tab as bullet lists.
When opened from the individual semantic type page, the Information side panel has the standard Details and Ownership tabs.
Searching for semantic types
On the Semantic Types page, use the Search and Add Filter fields to filter the list of semantic types.
You can also search for semantic types from any page by using the header bar search field, or by using the search bar on the home page. You can use the semantic type name, description or qualifier as search terms, as well as partial terms and wild cards.
After searching for an asset, on the Search Results page, you can filter by the name or qualifier of a semantic type. To filter the list of search results:
- Click Add filter and select Semantic Type.
- Choose from the operators contains or does not contain.
- Enter the phrase that you want to filter by. This can be a semantic type name, for example "Vehicle Identification Number", or you can enter a semantic type qualifier for example "VIN".
If an asset has a semantic type, the semantic type information is displayed on the search results card.
