You can use thresholds to set a value and value condition that alter the way a selected computation and field is displayed when the condition is met.
For example, if you are visualizing a data view that loads new data on a daily basis, you could create a threshold that changes the bar color of the current Sales Year from blue to red if Total Sales exceed a certain level. If you were working with historical data, you could also use a threshold to highlight areas of a chart that require attention.
Adding a threshold
Complete the following steps to add a threshold to a chart or table.
- Navigate to the data stage
- Select Edit > Edit stage
- Select the chart or table you want to add a threshold to.
- Click Edit in the Dashboard header bar.
- In the Edit Chart or Table window, click Threshold in the header bar.
- Choose whether or not to Process all Rules. When this option is selected, all the threshold rules are applied to a chart. When unchecked, only the first threshold rule in your list of rules is processed. To move a rule to up and down in a list of rules, select the rule and click Move Up or Move Down.
- Choose whether or not to Highlight All Points. Point Highlighting allows you to visually identify which points on your graph comprise a set. Depending on the rule that is broken, this set of points may indicate a trend or some problem that is causing your process to go out of control. When this option is selected, all the points that violate a threshold rule are highlighted using the Highlight Color, except for the last point, which is highlighted using the Last Highlight Point color. When this option is not selected, only the Last Highlight Point color will be applied to the last point in a set; however, other points in sets can be highlighted if you hover over the last point in a set with the mouse cursor.
- Click New.
- Select a threshold type from the drop down list. The Threshold configuration window for the selected threshold type is displayed. For information about the types of threshold you can add, see Threshold types.
- Complete the fields in the threshold configuration window and Click Save.
Threshold types
The following threshold types are available in Data360 DQ+.
- Western Electric Rules - a ruleset first applied to achieve statistical control of manufacturing processes.
- Nelson Rules - the Nelson rules are a process control rule set that can be applied to a measure over time.
- Multipoint rules - use multipoint rules to evaluate whether multiple points within a set on a graph satisfy a custom rule you have created. For example, say you were visualizing some measure, which ranged in values from 0 to 100, against a time period of 365 days. With a Multipoint rule, you could write a rule that, for every 5 days, highlighted series of 3 days where your measure was less than 5
- Expression rules - Expression rules allow you to apply a single expression to a computation used in a chart.
- Single point rules - use single point rules to evaluate whether single points within a graph satisfy a rule. For example, if you are visualizing a measure with values ranging from 0 to 100, you could use a single point rule to highlight points with a value of less than 50.
