You can use environment groups to grant users access to environments, and to individual items within the environment. For example, you can grant access to an environment to all members of an environment group, and then create a smaller subset of environment groups to manage permissions to individual items within the environment.
Environment groups are useful when delegating rights to content that exists in multiple environments. If you have a pipeline that exists in multiple environments, you can grant different users access to it in each environment by using environment groups that share the same name. By creating environment groups in separate environments that share the same name, you can simulate a single environment group having different members in different environments.
- From the menu at the top of the screen, select Admin > Environments.
- From the list of environments on the left of the screen, select the environment to which you want to add the new environment group.
- Ensure that the Details tab is selected, then scroll down to the Security section.
- Click the Manage Environment Groups button, then click New Group.
- Enter a Name for the environment group.Note: It is important to give your environment groups meaningful names that describe which users are in them, and what they should be used for. There are many places throughout the application where users can select environment groups for messaging or notification and security assignment, and since users cannot directly see which users belong to which environment groups, meaningful names can help them to figure things out.
- Click Save.
- Add users or groups of users to the environment group. You can use the Groups and Users tabs to switch between users and groups, then select the relevant groups or users from the Available Groups and Available Users lists.
- Click Save to add the selected users or groups to the environment group.
To remove a user or group from an environment group, click the delete icon to the right of the item in the Selected Groups list.
