The Storage Control Center is a suite of system software products. The person responsible for installing the products should have the ability and authority to work with authorized load libraries, issue console commands, and modify system procedure libraries.
The following checklist summarizes the installation steps in the SCC Product Installation Guide that must be performed before the MON-PRECALL verification procedures can be performed:
- Create the DTS distribution libraries on your host machine. The product distribution libraries can be delivered in a variety of formats, but the end result is a set of software distribution libraries on your host system.
- Create the production data sets:
DTS.R71.LOADLIB,DTS.R71.PARMLIB,DTS.R71.RULECKPT,DTS.R71.ISPFLIB,DTS.R71.DIFVAR, andDTS.R71.RULELIB. - Authorize the DTS load library.
- Copy the JCL for DIF to a system procedure library.
- Copy members to the DTS parameter library:
DTS.R71.PARMLIB. - Copy DTS load modules from the distribution library to the authorized load library.
- Install the DTS ISPF Interface.
IVP Step 1 - Start MON-PRECALL
Activate MON-PRECALL - If the Dynamic Install Facility (DIF) is not active on your system, issue the "START DIF"console command:
START DIF
For first-time installs, the installation facility activates and waits for command input. Use the following console command to activate MON-PRECALL:
F DIF,START PRECALL
START00 member in
the DIF parameter library to automatically activate the product during DIF initialization.
The START00 member delivered in the distribution library contains sample
commands to activate each SCC product. IVP Step 2 - Verify the MON-PRECALL
Hourly Thrashing Report
The MON-PRECALL Hourly Thrashing Report identifies the hours during the day that DFHSM recalls are occurring on the system. This report is useful in determining how many recalls are occurring during the production batch cycle. The report extracts information from the DFHSM log file type FSR records. For more information about the report, see “The MON-PRECALL Hourly Thrashing Report” on page 5-1.
Examine and run the sample JCL found in
DTS.R71.SLyyddd.SAMPLIB(MONRTRSH). Sample output is listed below:
09/20/09 TOTAL RECALLS PER HOUR - 1 – DATE TIME RECALLS
| 09/19/2009 | 14:00:00 | 8 | ||
| 09/19/2009 | 15:00:00 | 112 | ||

TOTAL RECALLS 157
IVP Step 3 - Verify the MON-PRECALL daily thrashing report
The MON-PRECALL Daily Thrashing Report totals the number of DFHSM recalls that occur for each day during the month. This report is useful in determining which days of the month have the highest recall totals. Typically, month-end or month-beginning production batch cycles will show higher numbers of recall activity. For more information about the report, see “The MON-PRECALL Daily Thrashing Report” on page 5-3.
Examine and run the sample JCL found in
DTS.R71.SLyyddd.SAMPLIB(MONRDTRS). Sample output is listed below:
