This activity manages the flow of work items to two or more participants.

In the process flow shown above, the Load Balancer Activity receives all work items from the first activity. The Load Balancer Activity distributes work items to one of three participants based on the workload of each. The participant with the fewest number of work items in their Inbox receives the work item first.

If all participants have an equal number of work items in their inboxes, then the Load Balancer Activity alternates work items by sending them to each participant in turn.

To use a Load Balancer Activity:

  1. Designate at least one activity as a starting point for the flow.

  2. Place the Load Balancer Activity at a point after the starting point activity.

  3. Place two or more other activities after the Load Balancer Activity.

  4. Place at least one Ending Point Activity in the flow.

  5. Draw Transitions between all activities.
