What is the purpose of Universal Data?

To open and display universal data files such as:

  • ESRI ArcSDE
  • ESRI Personal Geodatabase (*.MDB)
  • AutoCAD DWG/DXF
  • Microstation Design (*.DGN)
  • ESRI ArcInfo Export (*.E00)
  • USGS Spatial Data Transfer Standard (*.CATD.DDF)
  • VPF NIMA/NGA (*.FT)
  • Google Earth KML

You then can specify the data display options and define a location for the resulting .TAB files.

When is Universal Data active?

This command is always active.

How do I access Universal Data?

  • On the HOME tab, in the File group, from the Open list, click Universal Data to open the Specify Data Source dialog box.
  • On the TABLE, or the MAP tab, in the Content group, from the Open list, click Universal Data to open the Specify Data Source dialog box.
  • On the LAYOUT tab, in the Page group, from the Open list, click Universal Data to open the Specify Data Source dialog box.
