Format

Select a source format, or leave this field blank and it will be filled in when you select a dataset.

Dataset

Click Browse to select a dataset name, OR click to specify multiple files.

From the dialog that appears, you can either browse for a specific directory name, or you can type a path in the Directory field, and use wildcards to include all files of a specific format.

You can also browse to a specific directory, and then click the Subfolders box to also include all subfolders below that directory.

Add multiple directories and filenames of any supported format simply by clicking Add Dir and Add Files. Check the Identical Schemas box if you know that all datasets have the same schema.

Parameters

Parameter boxes allow you to specify additional information relating to some datasets. When you select one of these formats, the Settings button will become available. When you click the button, you'll see a dialog that contains options specific to the format you selected.

If the format does not support any special settings, then the button will remain dimmed (and unavailable).

Note: You do not have to change the settings if your source format supports this feature - FME will simply use the default settings.

Help for Settings: When you open a settings box, press the F1 key for detailed help.

Coordinate System

This field will usually display "Unknown", which means that FME will simply use default values. In most cases, the default value is all you'll need to view a dataset.
