What is the purpose of the Editing Layer Display?
To view the editing status of the active Map window.
The name of the editable map layer is displayed in the Status Bar (for example Editing: Cosmetic Layer). When there is no editable layer, the Status Bar displays (Editing: None).

When a Map window is the active window.
