You can add a text frame to your legend, to customize the legend with a title, subtitle, or description of the contents of the legend for example. By default, each legend frame has an optional title and subtitle, but you may require a title for the legend itself, or you may want to add copyright text in your map legend.

To add a text frame to your legend:

  1. Right-click on the Legend Designer window and select Add Text Frame from the pop-up menu (or right-click on the Legend Designer window and click Add Text Frame).
  2. In the Text Frame Properties dialog box add the text to display in the legend; this can be text for a title, subtitle, or description of the contents of the legend for example. You can include carriage returns in the text.
  3. Optionally, click Font (Aa) to open the Text Style dialog box and select the display style for the text. You can choose font, font size, and color effects (including halo and bold effects).
  4. Click OK to add the text to the legend.

The Legend Designer window refreshes with the new text frame.
